About the team
Runtime is six engineers across Rotterdam, Ghent and Porto. We own the scheduler, the workers and the queue that sit under every workflow. When a block runs, it runs on our code.
Our p95 is 184 ms per block and we want it lower. We also want retries that never double-charge anyone, and deploys that nobody notices.
What you will do
Design and ship changes to the scheduler that runs every block in 12 regions.
Make exactly-once delivery boring for payment and refund workflows.
Work with the Tracing team so every run explains itself when it fails.
Join the on-call rotation one week in six, with a paid day off after each shift.
Write the design docs and post-mortems that the rest of the company learns from.
What you bring
Six or more years building backend systems that other people depend on.
Experience with queues, distributed scheduling or stream processing in production.
Strong TypeScript or Go, and the willingness to learn the other.
Clear written English. Most of our decisions start as a document.
Nice to have
You have run Postgres or Kafka at a few terabytes and lived to tell it.
You have worked on a product used by finance or operations teams.
You speak Dutch or Portuguese. The lunch table will appreciate it.
Our stack
TypeScript, Go, Postgres and Kafka, deployed on Kubernetes in 12 regions. Traces go to our own store, built on ClickHouse. We use GitHub, Linear and Notion, and we deploy every weekday.
